January 2, 2020 – Redzone Wireless, LLC, a Maine-basedbroadband services company, announced the activation of 28 new fixed wireless broadband service sites in Maine during 2019 – bringing 25 Mbps broadband access to 55,000 new households and 8,000 previously unserved locations.

With the completion of the 2019 broadband network expansion, Redzone’s total Maine coverage has grown to 350,000 households – representing over 63% of all Maine homes.

Maine Broadband Demand – 53,000 Requests

Providing some insight to the scope of demand for improved broadband from Maine residents, Redzone recorded over 53,000 broadband service requests in 2019.  The substantial number of requests reflects the need for improved broadband throughout the state, and it reflects highly on the quality of Redzone’s fixed wireless Internet service as an attractive alternative to broadband provided by cable and telephone companies.

Redzone Fixed Wireless Technology is a Rural Broadband Game Changer

Redzone has disrupted the conventional model for delivering broadband access via cable, wire or fiber by extending Maine’s existing fiber optic infrastructure wirelessly. Redzone uses powerful Gigabit “backhaul” radios to connect clusters of towers to individual fiber optic circuits, and delivers broadband services to homes via LTE and 5G technology transmitted on FCC-licensed 2.5 GHz spectrum.

Closing Maine’s Broadband Gap

According to The ConnectME Authority, Maine’s publicly funded organization dedicated to improving broadband within the state, Maine’s digital divide is comprised of 80,000 locations around the state that lack access to 25 Mbps broadband service. Redzone estimates that it has narrowed Maine’s broadband gap by 10%, with new access provided to 8,000 previously underserved locations as a result of completing its 2019 expansion.
